Ada's History

The area currently known as Ada was first settled by the Daggs family just before the start of the twentieth century. Incorporated as a city in 1901, Ada was established around a post office and named after the mail carrier's daughter. The arrival of railroad lines from the west contributed to Ada's population growth. Gems from Ada's rich past, such as the 1920 McSwain Theatre, remain part of its landscape and identity as a modern small city.

Housing is especially affordable, with a median home price of $155,300 in Ada, less than half the median price for the entire US. School Districts and Education

A passion for education is intertwined with Ada's history. In 1909, the institution now called East Central University was founded as a normal (teaching) school. Today, it is a public university that offers a variety of academic programs and degrees. The public school district is known as Ada City Schools. There are three elementary schools, one junior high, and one high school. Ada City Schools also operates an Early Childhood Center with Kindergarten and an optional PreK program for children who are 4 years old as of September 1st. Ada High School has a GreatSchools.org ranking of 9, which makes it above average.

Public and Private Utilities in Ada

Water: The city of Ada operates the public water system. Water utility bills can be paid online through the city's website.
 
Electricity: Parts of Ada have electric services through Oklahoma Gas and Electric (OGE), the state's "oldest and largest investor-owned electric utility", and parts of Ada have electric services through People's Electric Cooperative (PEC), a co-op owned by its members.

Natural Gas: Ada residents receive natural gas service from Summit Utilities.
 
Cable and Internet: Choose between national satellite companies and local options such as Sparklight. 

Parks and Recreation

The Wintersmith Park Historic District is the largest public recreation area in Ada. It encompasses a lake, a rentable lodge, scenic bridges and trails, athletic courts, an amphitheater, and a new aquatic center. There is also a new sports complex where local athletic teams can play and host tournaments. If you're bringing a dog along with you to Ada, they're sure to enjoy the Ada Dog Park located on S Hickory Avenue and in Wintersmith Park!
